Artsy You Feature ~Lyla

LYLA
A Beautiful Pie Recipe…

Hello artsy friends stopping in today, I would LOVE to
take a moment to spotlight an amazing young lady
that I befriended not too long ago & have simply grown
very found of recently. The lovely fun and chocolate
addicted Lyla from http://chokolatnoir.blogspot.com/.
Lyla is the founder of Acts Of Love, Inc, which is a very
youthful and unique charity dedicated to the people of
Haiti. She’s also quiet an awesome baker and has a
fun recipe to share with us alongside her story today.
Please take a moment, sit and enjoy reading a bit
about Lyla, her charity, and iindulging in her tastefully
yummy pie recipe. To find out more about Lyla, or
keep up with her and her daily’s, you can always
visit her per her lovely blog at
OR her charity at

Without further due.. I give you Lyla.. ; ) )

Hello, My name is Lyla and I am a Chocoholic
with Cookie Monster tendencies :-D Before I
begin, I'd liked to thank you for wanting to
feature me on your blog. It's an honor ;)

~My Interests~
Basically, I'm interested in anything that
has to do with reading, writing and saving
the world! lol My friend and I started a
nonprofit organization a little over two
years ago and it takes a lot of my free time.
Acts of Love, Inc. is a 501(c)(3)
charitable nonprofit organization that
focuses on providing the people of Haiti
with food, water, clothing and other items
that may improve their daily lives. We also
host a lot of fundraisers and events in
Orlando, FL (which is where our office is located). I love my charity and all of my board
members! If being a director could be my full-time job I'd definitely drop
everything else in a heart beat (that's how much I love helping others). But, I
can't so I won't. Check us out on LoveConquersAll.org for more info on
our charity and the work we've done so far.
Three days a week I volunteer at a
rehabilitation hospital. I work with
children, adults, and the elderly
with their occupational and
physical therapy. My first day
there I almost cried. I saw all
of these patients with disabilities
that basically stripped them
of their independence and
instead of being depressed they
laughed and smiled throughout
their therapy. Not one patient felt as though they weren't going to get better.
Their positive attitude and spirit is what really touched me. Days
before I began volunteering, I was complaining to my boyfriend about
not having everything I strive for in life and worrying about the small
stuff. And there I was, working with patients who had gone through
so much and yet they were more llively than I was. This experience
has definitely changed my outlook on the small stuff in life.

School:
I am currently a graduate student. After a year of pursuing a M.A in
Professional Writing, I've decided to switch majors. I'm not ready to
disclose which graduate program I'm pursuing yet (some dreams aren't
meant to be shared and some endeavors are meant to be taken alone).
But, once I'm close to the graduation date I'll be more than happy
to shout it from the roof top! And even post it on Twitter ;)

Hmmm...what else...Umm, I love
listening to music and love baking.
For some reason everyone keeps
asking me to bake my brownies
for them and although I politely
say "oh, ok, sure," I'm silently
screaming, "I bake other
desserts too you know!"

As part of my Simple Summer
Solution, I'm going to share
Lyla's delicious pie recipe
with you today. Doesn't it
look SO scrumptious..?!!
The full recipe can be found via "Best Friggin Apple Pie Ever" .
Scoot on over & drool over this beautiful piece of pie..

Big THANKS to Lyla for stopping by and sharing so much with
me today. I am truly humbled by all that she strives to achieve
with her foundation and her love for the people of Haiti. It's truly
being a BIG pleasure getting to know her and taking in a piece
of humble pie in readjusting my daily concerns in knowing that,
there's always someone in a worse situation with a smile..
Give a little of yourself today friends ~ Just A LITTLE!!
Hope you enjoyed my Artsy guest today as much
as I did. Please take a moment and stop in to
visit Lyla & or her charity via

Thanks again for stopping by as always..

Pan Seared Garlic Chicken Thighs

Artsy Ingredients Needed
*Chicken Thighs (or parts of choice)
*Garlic (whole pieces, crushed)
*Garlic Salt
*Salt & Pepper
*Chicken Broth
*Balsamic Vinegar
*Rosemary
*Green Onions
*Lime Juice or Fresh Lime
*Onions
*Honey (not necessary but adds a lil more sweetness)

Preparation
To begin, wash your chicken and smear a bit of fresh lime juice
all around (it really adds a nice flavor to it even after cooking)

Season your chicken with your mix of dry ingredients
(Salt, Pepper, Garlic salt)
Heat a large skillet over a medium high heat. When hot, swirl with two
tablespoons olive oil and brown chicken on all sides. Remove chicken
to a plate, and saute onions and crushed garlic cloves until deeply bronzed.
Deglaze pan with 1/4 cup Balsamic Vinegar. Stir in some rosemary,
pepper, 1/2 cup Balsamic Vinegar, 1/2 cup chicken stock and honey.
Bring to a boil and add thighs back to pan. Reduce heat to low, cover
and simmer vigorously for 20-30 minutes, turning several times, until
chicken is cooked through and sauce has concentrated.

Remove from heat, garnish with green onions & dinner is ready!!!!
Serve with your choice of side dish (I used couscous).
The whole process took 45mins-1hr.
So YUMMY & Absolutely DELISH!!!
Thanks SO much for stopping in as always.. I hope my
recipe adds as a simple summer dinner solution someday
soon within your home. Join in tomorrow as I head on
over to visit Tracy of Tracy cooks it Right for another
day of a simple summer solution meal..
